Some friends of mine, and myself at DEFCON 15 ~ Las Vegas ~ August 2007. The second guy from the left is John Draper, aka Captain Crunch, who helped pioneer, even if through inspiration, much of the computer industry as it exists today. John Draper is an interesting character, and definitely worth reading about.

Question by ?#R: How do you build a computer?
where do you get all the parts you need and the instruction to build your computer? someone told hand build computer isn’t that good, why not? how long does it last if you do build it? and the last question, how long does it last?

It might be cheaper to buy a ready-made machine than build it yourself, because the cost of the individual parts will be more. You would need to purchase a case, motherboard, CPU chip, memory modules, hard drive kit, CD/DVD kit, floppy drive kit if you wanted one, power supply, video card, network card, keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers…it’s a long list!

Question by : Can I take computer parts with me in my hand luggage?
I need to take the following items from San Francisco to Sri Lanka:
* Motherboard
* Processor
* 2 hard drives
* 2 RAMs
* VGA
* ODD (optical disk drive, cd-rom)

I know none of them would survive the checked luggage. Would be destroyed, or stolen.

So, can I take them all in my hand luggage? Dont worry about the weights/sizes. Just need to know the legality of doing so. And would the scanners harm the hardware?

If I cant take them, what are the consequences of taking them in the checked luggage?
